Weekly Information Sheet

The Weekly Sheet has news and information and the
Readings, Collect and Post Communion Prayer in it for this Sunday.

We have assessed our church’s response to Covid, and the same measures will stay in place for November and will be assessed again ahead of December. Revd Mike.

Revd Ken Sambrook

It is with great sadness that I inform you of the death of Revd Ken Sambrook who passed away on Wednesday 10 November after a brief spell in hospital.

Ken, a servant of God and our churches, a dear friend to us all, a Sunday School Leader, Reader and Priest, he will be greatly missed. Please keep his family in your prayers.

Revd Ken Sambrook’s Funeral Information

With permission from Ken’s family I can now share with you the details of his funeral.

It is on Monday 29 November 2021, 11:30am at St Mary’s Church Wistaston CW2 8HA.

The service will also be live streamed on our YouTube Channel at

We anticipate Ken’s funeral being very well attended and priority in church will obviously be given to family and close friends. With this in mind, we are going to simultaneously live stream Ken’s funeral to the Church Hall. Once the church is deemed ‘full’ you will be directed to the Church Hall. If you prefer, you can go directly to the Church Hall, both venues will open at 11am, please help us by not arriving before this time.

The service in church will be followed by a private cremation.

Please be aware that, at both venues, we have Covid measures in place to mitigate risk: we ask that you sanitise your hands and wear a face covering entering and leaving the church and hall & remain seated whilst singing (and if possible wear a mask). Due to the expected numbers we will not be able to supply any socially distanced seating at either venue. My advice is that you join with us online if this will cause you an issue.

Please note that you should not attend if you have tested positive for Covid within the past 14 days, you have Covid symptoms, you are having to isolate due to coming into contact with someone who has tested positive for Covid or if you are advised not to because of extreme vulnerability to Covid.

All enquiries re the funeral should be made in the first instance to the Funeral Directors, Graham Tresidder & Son on 01270 812512.

With every blessing, Revd Mike.

Shoebox Appeal 2021

Thanks for the Shoeboxes given already. The deadline for physical Shoeboxes has now passed, however, you can donate a shoebox (or make a donation) online. For more information on what to include and make a box click here. You can also make a donation instead of making a Shoebox here.

Our Annual Toy Service

The Toy Sunday 5 December: once again this year, due to the limitations in place due to Covid, the Salvation Army are asking for financial donations in lieu of toys. You can make a donation through JustGiving here – we will also have a bucket collection on Sunday 5 December.

The hope is for people in Church of England churches across the country to use the Living in Love & Faith resources to study and pray together. The resources are designed to encourage and enable engagement and learning in a variety of settings. This church-wide learning together, listening to one another, and listening to God is part of discerning a way forward for the Church of England in relation to matters of identity, sexuality, relationships and marriage. The purpose of the resources is to enable the Church of England churches across the country to participate in a process of learning and praying together as part of discerning a way forward in relation to matters of identity, sexuality, relationships and marriage.

Revd Mike, along with the PCC, will be exploring ways to facilitate these discussions in our church community.

Giving to St Mary’s & St Luke

The church’s finances are under extreme pressure at the moment. I would ask you to review your personal giving to the church. If you already give regularly then perhaps consider increasing your giving, if you don’t give regularly then perhaps consider doing this. I really do appreciate the giving that happens already and the extra giving that has taken place during the pandemic. However, due to the lack of income from not being in church and from not being able to let the church hall, plus our outgoings being fairly fixed, we have lost around £30,000 in the past 12 months. This obviously places us in a difficult and vulnerable financial position. To find out more about giving to church, the ways you can do it, and how you can do it in a tax-efficient way, please take a look below. Please keep our finances in your prayers.

You can give via your bank via online banking or telephone banking. If you do it this way we receive 100% of the money you give, there is no transaction fee. Here are the details you need to make a payment directly into the church bank account. For phone banking you may need to take a look at a statement from your bank and it normally has the details of how to do this on the back. You can give once or set up a monthly payment. Please remember to never give passwords over the phone and only call the official number on your statement.
