It’s been good to see some stars appearing – let’s see some more ?

In the build up to Christmas, we’d like to invite you to brighten up both your community and the internet! Simply make a bright star and display it in a window in your home. In addition to this, why not post a photo of your star on social media with #GuidingStar @maryandluke . Let’s be lights in our community and perhaps the stars may remind us of the stars in our communities we are thankful for this year. More details can be found here.

How to book for Worship at St Mary’s & St Luke’s

To book a place for worship in church either (our preference is for you to book by email or use the online form, but of course you can phone if you wish):

You can book for more than one Sunday at a time for each month. To make things fair, if you do book for more than one Sunday in the month, and we need the space, we may ask that you give up a Sunday so that others can attend.

Please book by midday on the Saturday at the latest & we will only get back to you if there’s an issue with your booking.

Wednesday 10 am Holy Communion Service – no booking necessary for this, but there is a limit to how many we can fit in.

Morning Prayer: on Zoom Mon, Tues & Thurs each week. You can join us on Zoom here: bit.ly/930mp the service lasts for  20 mins.

Christmas Services

This year, due to the restrictions in place, the limited capacity of both of our churches and to keep us all safe, we are holding some services in Church and some Online Only or a mix of both. Please see the symbols alongside each service to see where it’s taking place. Click on the image for a larger view of it.

I hope you will be able to join us in church or online to celebrate the birth of Christ. Revd Mike.

Choose your Favourite Carol

On Sunday 27 of December at 6pm on Facebook & YouTube, we will be counting down the top five favourite carols voted for by you!

Paul & Mike will counting down the top Carols you have chosen with a story of the origin of the carol and the story behind it.

Make sure you vote for your favourite by clicking here bit.ly/myfavouritecarol The deadline for voting is midnight on Sunday 20 December – don’t miss out!

Whether you vote or not, it will be a lovely service for the Sunday evening after Christmas. Settle down with some festive refreshments and enjoy singing our favourite Carols.

Some Special Online Services This Sunday

Sing Christingle – a National Christingle Service

We warmly welcome you to our first ever National Christingle Service in partnership with the Church of England on Sunday 13th December at 9am.

How to watch. This will be streamed on the Church of England’s website, Facebook and YouTube channels and we’d love it if you tuned in to share the light with the whole country.

The service will include a few words from HRH The Duchess of Gloucester, the Archbishop of Canterbury who will be lighting the Advent Candle, as well as our Vice-Chair of Trustees, the Bishop of Derby Libby Lane. We’ll also see a special performance from award winning number one soprano Joanna Forest, and join young people lighting the Christingles. It is set to be a magical event.

Carols on the Doorstep

This looks fantastic! Why not invite your neighbours to sing carols with you, them on their doorstep and you on yours of course!

Sunday 20th December at 5:30pm for 20 minutes – the Carols will be played on Premiere Radio so each household listens in at the same time and sings along  – great, simple idea for these times.

All the information and resources including carol sheets and invites can be found here: https://www.carolsonthedoorstep.co.uk/

Marian and I send Christmas Greetings to all our members. We have been thinking of you and have missed your company very much during the last year. We have enjoyed our telephone calls with you and feel sure that we shall meet again sometime in 2021. Audrey.

The Jams & Pickles Hamper Raffle was drawn last week and the winners are:
1st – Margaret Shephard who wins the Hamper
2nd – The Stubbs Family who won the Christmas Craft Set

Thanks to Simon for organising it and to The Hornes and the Shaws for the donation of the prizes and of course to all who bought a ticket – we raised over £100 towards the deficit on the War Memorial Project.

The Jam Factory is taking a break!!

Chris and Mike Horne are now taking a break from producing the jams and pickles etc.  We have now raised approx £650.00 towards the church funds.

Any orders already in the ‘system’ will be processed. Most of the hyacinths have now been delivered.

Once again, thanks to Chris and Mike for working so hard to meet the orders and for everyone who has contributed by purchasing items.

I’m sure the products will be back sometime in the New Year!

Happy Christmas from us all

Thank you from

Sue, Chris and Mike
